My child is new to parkour should they compete?
Yes! We try to keep things fun at our competitions, and we believe they are a great chance for all skill levels to come together for a day and enjoy working on challenges together. If they are in their first semester, I would recommend the speed event; if they have completed one or more semesters of parkour, I would recommend speed and skill, and if they have done more than two semesters and are interested, I think style would be a great pick.
What are the events?
Speed: the best option for athletes new to parkour competitions. We will have two obstacle courses set up inside our gym, and athletes will have two attempts on each to get the fastest time. Their two fastest times will be combined for their final score. Obstacle courses will feature moves involving climbing, vaulting, crawling, jumping, precision landing, and sprinting.
Skill: Five stations will be set up around the gym, and athletes will have over an hour to move through the different areas, trying to score as many points as possible. At each station, there will be five challenges ranging from easy to nearly impossible. During the explanation of the challenges, there are usually many gasps and cries of shock from students saying, “No way I can do that!” and usually, they surprise themselves and are able to stick the challenge before the time is up.
Style: After some prep time, athletes will have 10-30 seconds out on the turf to show off a series of parkour moves they designed the day of utilizing the setup. Athletes will be graded by judges, and the highest score based on execution, difficulty, and composition wins.
Where do I sign up?
Unlike our past competitions athletes register for our competitions through the United States Parkour Association. Our competition is part of the West Coast Regional Qualifier circuit.
